For me, my downfall is downtime and eating as a habit. I eat when I'm bored, happy, sad....I am rarely hungry....so if I'm not busy I am looking in the fridge! I have learned that if I keep healthy food around and limit the junk in the house that helps! My husband even stores his potato chip snacks at work to eat during lunch (because if I see them, I finish all of them...he can make them last for months)! However, just because I have healthy food doesn't mean I'll eat it.....so now I've learned I have to have it and I have to prepare it ahead of time (hard boil eggs, cut veggies in advance). This way I will not reach for the unnecessary unhealthy snack!

Hi Kim,
At one time, the busier I kept myself the less time I had for eating. More recently, however, I found that when I am busy I can still eat things that are easily accessible & ready to just pop in my mouth. So you are right, if you don't plan ahead, then you plan to fail!
I need to have those easily accessible goodies that are healthy & part of a low calorie diet readily available so that I have a visible choice when I reach for something.
Hiding "goodies" just makes me frustrated & mean. I also noticed that I need to chew alot, I find that part of my satisfaction (please don't go into Freud).
I will try harder!

Dear "E",
Thanks for keeping up with me. I love to see your comments.
You are absolutely right! The easiest things to eat on the run are the worst for you....it's cheaper and easier to eat junk! But we can overcome it!
I like healthy preportioned snacks but I hate to pay more for 100 calorie packs!!! I am trying to stock the following:
skim milk mozzarella cheese sticks hard boiled eggs (boil a dozen every Sunday night)
apples
walnuts (by portion size)
Celery with skinny cow cheese
turkey pastrami slices
yogurt
I am trying to get myself to realize that these are my reward snacks....after all....I do have more energy after eating these than a bag of chips!
What healthy snack foods to you enjoy?
And speaking of Freud...chewing does seem to be an addiction! But why fight it...consider carrying sugar free gum and water bottles with plain or flavored water. Herbalife, and other companies sell low cal beverage drink mix powders that you can mix with your water. These come in flavors such as peach/mango that will add up to 15 grams of protein to your diet without packing on pounds. For a cheaper option look toward crystal light (less protein but still low cal), or add cucumber or lemon.
After that, redirect yourself. As you reach for the fridge/cabinets out of habit...try to walk away and pick up a book instead! Let me know how it works! I am getting better at it but I must admit...last night the chips won!
Hi Kim,
HBE's & bite size fruit are in my frig too now & so far I've managed to keep away from anything else. No yearning yet either.
The challenge comes this afternoon when I'm with friends (thin ones), for early supper.
I really don't want to find substitutes with artificial sweeteners, or liquids in plastic to keep me happy. I would like to be happy with less, but adequate & nutritious.
I will be doing lots of walking today & have already done some very interesting reading.
